Tenebrae is described as “phenomenal” (The Times) and “devastatingly beautiful” (Gramophone Magazine), award-winning choir Tenebrae, under the direction of Nigel Short, is one of the world’s leading vocal ensembles renowned for its passion and precision. Tenebrae has twice secured the award for Best Choral Performance in the BBC Music Magazine Awards (2012 and 2016), and its recording of Fauré’s Requiem with the London Symphony Orchestra was nominated for the Gramophone Awards (2013). In 2018, Music of the Spheres, Tenebrae’s album of part songs from the British Isles, received a Grammy nomination. Tenebrae is renowned for its highly-acclaimed interpretations of choral music with repertoire ranging from the Renaissance through to contemporary choral masterpieces and has appeared at major festivals and venues including the BBC Proms, Edinburgh International Festival, Leipzig Gewandhaus (Germany) and Melbourne Festival (Australia). The 2018-19 season sees the return of Tenebrae’s popular Holy Week Festival at St John’s Smith Square, London, as well as concerts throughout the UK and abroad.

The famed Choir of the Cathedral of Notre Dame, Paris will perform in the new Christ Cathedral under the direction of Henri Chalet with organist Yves Castagnet. This unforgetible performance will forever link these two great cathedrals of the world. Founded in 1991 by the City of Paris and the Parisian Diocesan Association, Musique Sacrée at Notre Dame de Paris has the task of teaching music, training singers, organizing musical accompaniment of liturgy, proposing concerts and recitals, and carrying out research into the rich musical inheritance of Notre Dame Cathedral. It also plays an important role in the creation of new musical works and in their circulation. The first and central element is the Choir School of Notre Dame (Maîtrise), composed of the Children’s Choir, the Young Ensemble, the Adult Choir and the Gregorian Ensemble. The choirs perform regularly with organ and on occasion with a Baroque or Symphony orchestra.

The boys of the London Oratory Schola directed by Charles Cole sing a concert in two parts, starting with music from the golden age of the Spanish renaissance including works by Francisco Guerrero, Tomás Luis de Victoria, Alonso Lobo, Juan Esquivel and Cristóbal de Morales. The Schola will then perform works from Tudor England including composers such as William Byrd, Peter Philips and Thomas Tallis.

Now hear him perform the music for which he has been acclaimed in the US and abroad. This very evening of the beautiful music of Verdi, Puccini, Lehar, and much more. It will be held in our Cultural Center's Freed Theatre on the beautiful campus of Christ Cathedral. A Patron Reception was held prior to the concert in honor of Donald Schnake. Don, who died this past summer, was a dear friend of Christ Cathedral, Christ Cathedral Concerts and the Hazel Write Organ.
