The Diocesan Choir of Orange

“Large choirs (capellae musicae) existing in Basilicas, Cathedrals and other major Churches, which have in the course of centuries earned for themselves high renown by guarding and fostering a musical heritage of inestimable value, should be used for sacred celebrations of a more elaborate kind” - Musicam Sacram

Representing over 30 Parishes, the Diocesan Choir of Orange, made up of volunteer singers from parishes all around the Diocese, sings for major Episcopal Liturgies particular to the Cathedral such as Chrism Mass, Ordinations, an annual Christmas Concert, and other special liturgies throughout the year.

The Diocesan Children’s Choir

Children from first grade through high school make up the Diocesan Children’s Choir, giving children from all over Southern California the opportunity to sing for Cathedral liturgies once a month and learn the basics of singing and musicianship under the leadership of Mr. Patrick Flahive and Mr. David Ball.


The Christ Cathedral Schola

Under the direction of David Ball, Cathedral Organist and Head of Music Ministry, this professional ensemble sings the gamut of the greatest sacred repertoire from chant to contemporary motets, ensuring that “the treasure of sacred music is preserved and fostered with great care” (Sacrosanctum Concilium) at Christ Cathedral. The Cathedral Schola serves both the Cathedral Parish and the Diocese, singing regularly at the Sunday 10am Mass as well as special Diocesan liturgies throughout the year.


The Christ Cathedral Spanish Choir

With a repertoire spanning from traditional Latin Motets by composers such as Palestrina and Vittoria to contemporary Hispanic liturgical music including well-known hymns found in Flor y Canto and newly-written music by Dolores Gomez, Head of Hispanic Music, the Christ Cathedral Spanish Choir practices weekly and serves the Parish’s Sunday 12pm Mass as well as other special liturgies in the Hispanic community throughout the year, combining with the English and Vietnamese choirs for multi-lingual liturgies.


The Christ Cathedral English Choir

Singing the full range of sacred repertoire from a cappella Gregorian Chant to vernacular anthems accompanied by the Hazel Wright Organ, the English choir serves the Parish’s Sunday 10am Mass as well as other special liturgies throughout the year, combining with the Spanish and Vietnamese choirs for multi-lingual liturgies.
